3 food stops · 6 tastings · English & German-speaking guide with a culinary background
Taste & Tale is a journey through gastronomy, history, and identity.
Before becoming a city guide, I was the owner and chef of Beca’s Kitchen, a popular bistro in Bucharest for almost ten years. Today, I blend my passion for good food with my love of storytelling — and this is what makes Taste & Tale unique.
We explore Bucharest’s Old Town at a relaxed pace, as stories of princes, kings, and dictators unfold alongside the scent of freshly baked goods, traditional dishes lovingly reinterpreted, and French-inspired desserts.
Over the course of the walk, we discover more than 15 iconic landmarks and three carefully selected food stops, each reflecting a different layer of Romanian cuisine — simple, authentic, and full of character.
As we walk through the Old Town and nearby historic areas, Bucharest reveals itself through its contrasts — medieval roots, royal ambition, Belle Époque elegance, and communist echoes.
Along the route, we explore:
Stop 1: Old Princely Court, Saint Anthony Church & Manuc’s Inn – Three stories, one stop.
Stop 2: St. John’s Church – Sliding churches and moving propaganda.
Stop 3: Stavropoleos Church & Caru’ cu Bere – Brâncovenesc calm meets Gothic exuberance: devotion & delight.
Stop 4: CEC Palace & Post Office Palace – A German king, French elegance, and Romania’s royal ambition.
Stop 5: Macca-Vilacrosse Passage – a golden-roofed arcade with Parisian charm
Stop 6: Palace of the Military Circle – From bombed beauty to a royal triumph.
Stop 7: English Passage – Whispers of Jazz and Forbidden Nights
Stop 8: Telephone Palace – Skyscrapers, scandals, and a king in crisis
Stop 9: Royal Palace & Revolution Square – From royal resistance to communist rise & collapse.
Stop 10 & Final Stop: Romanian Athenaeum – A round fresco, a full story – Romania in one elegant sweep.
A compact and carefully designed walking route of approximately 2.5 km, starting in St. Anthony Square and ending at the Romanian Athenaeum, combining cultural landmarks with three culinary stops.
A journey that feeds both heart and mind — one step, one bite, one story at a time.
This is not just a food tour — it’s a cultural deep dive through taste. You’ll taste how Romanian cuisine blends Ottoman spice, Austro-Hungarian comfort, and French finesse.
Each stop is chosen for meaning, not trend, and reflects a layer of Romanian culinary identity.

Here, you’ll enjoy a curated selection of six Romanian tastings — traditional recipes reinterpreted with a modern touch, paired with a drink of your choice: water, juice, tea, coffee, or beer. Each dish tells its own story — of roots, memory, and a new generation of chefs who reinvent local flavors while keeping their soul.
